HERTZOG ANNOUNCES MODERNIZATION PLANS

Prime Minister James Hertzog announces the 1936 spending budget.

The 1936 budget has been released and South African Prime Minister James Hertzog has outlined the governments intentions to reform and restructure the economy of our great nation. The great depression and recent droughts in the Transvaal region has seen employment in the agricultural sector steadily falling for the last decade. 

This rise in unemployment has been a boon for the mining sector, which now provides the back bone of the economy. Trade deals securing the exports of metals such as copper and iron as well as rare materials such as gold mean the nations coffers are slowly increasing. 

"The development of new technology to aid the mining industry will only benefit the people of South Africa" Hertzog told gathered press.  "We are investing heavily in new steel manufacturing processes which will increase the output of mines across the country."

One of the big issues facing everyday Afrikaans is the competition for work. Many of the available employment opportunities in the country are in the unskilled labour force, be that down a copper mine or working the fields in the farming sector. 

"We are also working to improve the education system here in South Africa, new schools will be opening across the country in Johannesburg, Durban and Bloemfontein. If we can educate the next generation of citizens to a higher standard we will be able to transform our economy to one focused on Technological advancement rather than manual labour."

The government also unveiled plans to invest in new technologies including the census tabulation machine and developing radio techs. The response to these announcements have largely welcoming amongst the Afrikaans community.
