The Afrikaans Illuminati Part VII - A Hearts of Iron III AAR

Usually it is we, die Broederbond, who use our power over industry, the media and the clergymen of South Africa to corrupt the political class, use our influence over the voters to manipulate those in the Union Building. This time, however, it was a politician who came to us with his own diabolical scheme. The man was Oswald Pirow. Perhaps emboldened after witnessing how we influenced the course of the election he turned to die Broederbond.

Oswald Pirow, a strong advocate of Afrikaan Nationalism

Oswald Pirow is the leader of "South Africa New Order" largely seen as the countries most radical right wing party.  His suggestions were of great interest to die Broederbond and the national security of South Africa.

In November, 1937 a small scale rebellion broke out in the recently acquired state of Angola. The 3rd SA Infantry Brigade stationed in nearby Windhoek, Namibia, were called in to eliminate the just over 900 rebels. The situation was easily dealt with, this time. It was Pirow who suggested that we establish a 'New Order' of secret police: The Gryshemde.

The Gryshemde, or 'grey shirts' would be stationed in major cities and key ports around the country. Ten divisions of Gryshemde (2 GAR + 1 MP) now secure the defence of these strategically important locations from potential invasion whilst also ensuring the rule of law and suppressing the risk of rebel uprisings.

The Gryshemde will enforce our oppressive regime

As well as the stationing of Gryshemde units in key provinces such as Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Nova Lisboa and Windhoek work has been undertaken to build new defensive fortifications in these areas. Renovations on the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, which will serve as the Gryshemde HQ, have also begun.

Operations will be run from the Castle of Good Hope

While our military planning was able to neutralise the threat of a Portuguese counter attack we found ourselves fairly open to naval invasion. Almost all of our remaining neighbours have good relations with major countries a la France, the UK and Italy so any future expansion could easily lead to a full scale invasion of South Africa. Improvement of the nations defence was a necessity.

As a reward for his forward thinking and initiative Oswald Pirow has been rewarded with a seat in the cabinet as Armament minister.
